To describe Lifa, is akin to describing an onion, it is concealed by layers and only by peeling each layer and giving it a detailed look can one truly come to comprehend the core of the individual that she is. The first layer is often said to be the thickest and most difficult one to peel away, and for Lifa this is especially the case. In the end, if someone continuously gets burnt in their attempts to show kindness to others, it's only natural for them to become afraid of being burnt yet again, right? This was exactly the case for Lifa. Ever since the incident during her childhood the Eevee became the source of a local superstition. The loss of her beloved parents, and the coldness that followed caused Lifa to pull a shell around her feelings. By adopting a distant, and seemingly indifferent demeanor the Eevee attempted to close off her heart from the world, in fear of being burnt once again. It's quite clear that Lifa's personality is slightly different than most. The first, and perhaps most noticeable trait to this layer is associated with Lifa's seemingly cold and apathetic nature toward her fellow pokémon. Due to the events of her childhood, there is only one thing of importance for Lifa, to track down the pokémon responsible for her family's demise, and for that goal the end justifies the means. As a result Lifa wouldn't shy away from manipulating pokémon, or even kill them if necessary, and without a second thought crossing her mind.
It's quite noticeable that Lifa isn't the type to express her emotions through expressions to strangers, believing such things to be a weakness for others to exploit. Instead she has decided to adopt a figurative mask, usually concealing her emotions behind a neutral expression, and a emotionless tone. Indeed, she might appear as a traditional cold and cruel survivor who is willing to do anything to survive, but at the same time there is still the fact this is only one side to her. Towards her teammates Lifa shows a remarkably different demeanor, one that clearly seems an echo to the gentle Eevee she had once been. Lifa is incredibly protective over the young Pokémon in her care, perhaps because she believes those creatures are much more genuine when it comes to expressing their true feelings and intentions, what erases Lifa's suspicion about what others might think, or whether they are scheming something or not, due to the honesty in those Pokémon's actions.
If one does gain Lifa's trust she seems to show a more gentle and timid demeanor, a bashfulness likely associated with her inexperience on aspects of friendship and companionship. It's also during those moments that Lifa's traumas, and the vulnerabilities associated with them become more evident. The first and perhaps foremost ones is Lifa's fear of the dark. It's easy to notice that moving outdoors during the evening is quite stressful for her, the shadows that prowl the night making her borderline paranoid, and when cloaked in true darkness the poor Eevee truly develops a hysteria. This fear is associated with the first incident. When her family was attacked during the middle of the night, Lifa had been forced to hide herself, the creeping darkness that surrounded her, accompanied by the terrifying sounds of the rampaging conflicts throughout the forest would have been enough to traumatize any young pokémon. Turns out the killers of her parents wanted to use Lifa for their own icky schemes because she was the only shiny one out of the litter. Lifa had been forced to experience this at such a tender age, and when other Pokémon came to investigate, the sounds that came from nearby reached her, the Eevee broke out into loud cries, to be found by her rescuers. Ever since that event Lifa always has some source of light with her, for the darkness brings forth the terrifying memories of the past, and it isn't unheard of for the Eevee to have a mental breakdown if she is exposed to the dark for too long.
