Today, just like any other day Kaslin woke up and went to the mess hall but unlike most other days, today Kaslin was able to eat with Vanitas. After being in the guild for so long and being alone most of his life, Kaslin had finally made a friend and someone he could talk to. Though Vanitas was why above him in experience in the guild and Kaslin didn't want to drag him down, outside of training and eating in the mess hall the two didn't really spend time together. Vanitas went out on his missions and did jobs but Kaslin just sat in the guild, waiting for something to happen and watching the Bulletin board hoping that one day he'd be able to find a job he would like.
Today, Kaslin decided that it would be the day that he took on a proper job, the last job he had taken was one for his sibling and wasn't an actual Guild job that got him points in the guild. He wanted to prove that his training with Vanitas was right and that he wasn't just some weakling who didn't do anything in the guild. But as he read through the jobs, he couldn't help but think that each one was too tough for him or too scary... So he simply stood there, reading and re-reading the jobs over and over hoping that no one would come around and ask him what he was doing.

Lifa had gone to the Guildmasters today, hoping that they would assign her to a team. However, they found that Lifa had been too young and possibly too weak to actually start up her own team. So their best advice was- go find someone, or perhaps train up so you can actually go in a dungeon by yourself.
Of course she knew they meant well, but the Zorua felt like she was being looked down upon- and that was something Lifa hated. So she decided to take a few dungeons upon herself, to prove that she was not a pokémon to looked down on. She was going to astonish the Guildmasters with her super-strength and smarts.
However, as she approached the job boards, a tiny pokémon caught her eye.
Obviously he looked like he was hesitating. A bit scared, even. She wondered what was going through that Swinubs head. So, as curious as she was, she walked over to him and sat down beside him.
At first, she didn't say anything. Just- looking at the board so it wouldn't look like she was looking for company.
Though as time passed by, the Swinub still didn't move and Lifa looked at him.
A sigh left her lips, a bit too forced for her liking. But then again, she was trying to seek out a conversation with this pokémon.
"Tough jobs, aren't they?" She asked, only looking at him with her eyes.

After reading through these jobs two or three times, Kaslin finally came to the conclusion that he couldn't do any of them by himself. These jobs were also in some of the harder dungeons and he surely wasn't even going to think about going there, he had no ice type moves and surely no ground type moves so the only move he could use normally was tackle and that wasn't going to work against the Pokemon in the Glittering Cave.
Just as he was about to give up he saw something dark out of the corner of his eye, he didn't flinch and he didn't move to get out of its way as it sat next to him. He could smell the faint scent of berries, he glanced just slightly to see who it was and immediately looked at the board again. It was a Zorua but not a normal Zorua, she looked a little different, not wanting to make a fool out of himself he didn't say anything and just gulped as he continued to pretend to look at the board some more.
Finally the silence was broken, her big red eyes looking at him as she spoke, closing his eyes for a second after hearing her voice he turned and looked up at her with a faint fake smile. "Y-Yeah..." he turned back to look at the board one more time... "To... To be honest, I've looked at this board every day.. I... I can't do these missions... Not alone." He sunk down low to the floor and sighed again. Of course she was probably going to think he was weak now.

When the Swinub looked up at her with that fake smile, Lifa looked a little surprised. This pokémon looked like it was actually frightened of her.
As he looked back at the board, she continued to watch him.
He was small, furry, and his nose was as pink as a Ditto. When he continued to speak, Lifa glanced back at the boars. She had to admit, they looked tough. But nothing she couldn't handle.
However as the little Swinub said that he wouldn't be able to do this alone, Lifa got up. "Well then, how about we team up?" Completely ignoring the fact he was speaking negative of himself. "Two is better than one." A smile appeared on her face as she noticed how insecure this little pokémon was. Usually, she would object to pokémon being negative about themselves, but she had a feeling that this Swinub's self-esteem had sunken so deeply, words weren't going to help him. "You can go ahead and pick a job." She wanted to give him the opportunity to pick out a job, just to boost his confidence a little.
Lifa knew that everyone had their flaws, nobody was perfect. Unless it was a Mary Sue-mon. She didn't believe in Mary Sue's. Pokémon were born to be imperfect, but grow up to be magnificent personalities.
Somehow, she felt that this Swinub would grow up to be just like them.

Kaslin was ready for the Zorua to scoff at him and walk off picking up a job immediately for her to go and do with ease but he could tell out of the corner of his eye that she was watching him. He began to shake just a little, probably not enough for her to notice but luckily before he had to explain himself or make up an excuse to leave she stood up. But the words that popped out of her mouth were not the words he expected, immediately he turned to her his mouth ajar.
"Y-you what?" He spoke so fast he barely got the words out before trying to speak again, "Are you sure? you want to do a job with me? Why?... I!" He had no words to describe the feeling he had, he was both shocked and delighted, happy that someone other than Vanitas believed in him and happy that someone would come with him on these jobs so he wasn't alone. He still thanked Vanitas so much for training him but to have someone go on a job with him as a team, this was only something he dreamt about happening.
"I... if you're sure..." He looked up to the board, he immediately went to the lowest ranking missions, he hoped she didn't mind as he picked off a mission for a Piplup. "This one? Seems that they are too scared to continue and want us to help them come back.... On the B4th Floor..." He looked up at the Zorua, a voice in the back of his mind saying that she was probably joking but he gave her a smile, just hoping that she wasn't.

That was exactly the response Lifa expected coming from a pokémon as insecure as this Swinub. He probably felt like she was joking about joining him, but on the contrary, she was actually serious. She hated seeing pokémon be laughed at for whatever reason. Though Lifa wondered why this Swinub in particular was so.. shy and insecure.
"Yeah I do," She said with a smile, her red eyes sparkling with excitement. "I mean, having a partner is way more fun than going in a dungeon alone." She added, certainly noticing the change in the tiny mammal. He was delighted that someone actually dared to go on a dungeon with him.
Lifa's smile became wider knowing that she would do her best to help this Swinub gain his confidence back. No matter the cost, no matter how long it would take. This Swinub would become the toughest, bravest and smartest explorer out there.
When he stammered and asked if she was sure, she gently nudged him with her paw. "I know my species have a habit of pulling pranks on other pokémon. But for once in my life, I'm not joking."
The Swinub picked a D-ranked mission, with the end floor B4F. Nothing too strong, she was sure that the duo would be fine.
When he asked if this one was alright, the Zorua nodded.
However, she realized that her curiosity had got the best of her. She completely forgot to introduce herself.
"By the way, my name is Lifa." She said, returning the shy smile the Swinub had just given her.

The Zorua was so pleasant, Kaslin couldn't help but blush as she spoke to him more, she even smiled at him and constantly kept eye contact. The way she spoke just made him want to talk to her more, the fact that for once he was not being laughed at and someone was actually wanting to do something with him to help him get better was great. He only ever though Vanitas would be the only one to do that and even he didn't go on missions with him, when she nudged him with her paw he looked up at her.
The smile appearing on his face wider than ever as he nodded, "Thank you." Before they could leave though she looked at him and he realized immediately that they hadn't exchanged names yet. "Oh, i'm sorry I forgot." He shook his head, giving her a shy smile again, "I'm Kaslin.... Thank you again." He looked down when he said thank you, taking the mission in his hand he was ready to tell the guild master that they were going. The nerves started to kick in but he knew that with Lifa his new partner they'd do fine.
