It was a hot and humid day today, the kind where the sun hung heavy over the sky and the world seemed to grind to a halt. The heat wave that lapped over the land instilled a turgidness in many Pokemon. They slumped over lawn chairs, waved themselves with paper fans, begged Flying type Pokemon to grant them a fresh gust of wind. Nobody quite felt like doing anything. Probably the only people active at the moment were explorers.
Fleurette was not an explorer, nor was she immune to the heat. Unfortunately for her, though, she still had one more design to sketch for tomorrow. She always liked to sketch by the riverside, which she was faithfully trudging towards now despite the sun beating violently down on her back. She seriously considered shaving off all her fur.
A floppy straw hat with a black ribbon wound around the brim was placed over her head, allowing her some measure of shade. It didn't do much in the wya of cooling her off, but at least it allowed her to see without squinting her eyes through the blinding sunlight. In one paw she clutched a picnic basket, which held her drawing pad, drawing utensils, and some food and drink to keep her going.
Locating the particular spot under a leafy tree where she usually sat, the Espurr perked up and hurried towards it, plopping down with an exhaled sigh. It was much shadier under the boughs of this tree, she noted with relief. She squinted at the winding river, which sparkled fervently with reflected sunlight, as she opened the basket next to her and retrieved a drawing pad and a pencil. She already had formulated an idea while making her way over there; now all that was left was to execute it.
Before the pencil tip could even touch the creamy paper, something floating in the river caught her eye. It was a small glass container, stopped with a cork. Upon further inspection, she realized that there was a small roll of paper within as well, tied with a piece of twine. A note in a bottle? Who could have written it?
Intrigued, Fleurette stood and concentrated, placing a Barrier at the surface of the water in front of the bottle. The river continued to flow, but the container was stopped by the wall of shimmering energy. She began heading towards it, wondering if she could somehow fish it out without getting her paws wet. With this scorching weather, though, even she wouldn't mind a quick dip.
