JUSTIFIED HYSTERIA : arena battle

[Sundance]

The morning had been overcast, but not neccesarily cold. Soft, fluffy, white clouds hung overhead, drifting along a blue skyway leisurely as civilians, explorers, and outlaws alike went along life below. It was a perfect battle for an arena battle, a battle that had not been assigned, but rather challenged. For the older civilians, it reminded them of their old days of dueling, although the only difference that this modern duel did not end in another's death.

The two of you stood at opposite ends of the arena, sand fitted underfoot so that all competitors had a soft ground to land on. perhaps it was a mechanic that had been suggested by the Chancey that stood behind the gates the two of you had come out of, looking out onto the arena with worried gazes and medical supplies at the ready. Before you could ponder this much more, the announcer's voice echoed around the stadium, counting down to one. As the number was spoken, it became apparent that Domino would be striking Meredith first.

Upon the sound of the announcer’s voice, Domino didn’t hesitate to glide onto the arena spinning around in a bit of a loop before making a careful landing. The challenger placed on paw on her hip while allowing the other to hang loosely to the side. Her confidence gave the illusion that this wasn’t her first time at the arena when it was. Domino’s eyes flared with pride as she sniffed in the clear air around her. Her smirked formed slowly, but it was clear that she was no slouch when it came to speed. It was one thing she would not ever say was a weakness of hers.

As she made eye contact with her opponent, a rather sad excuse for a lizard, a Totodile, Domino knew this victory would belong to her. Folding her arms over her chest, her smirk transformed into a glare. She remained silent, allowing the referee to count down the numbers, and held herself back from attacking too soon. She would not need to cheat in order to prove herself, but she would certainly go all out on this lizard.

Allowing her cheeks to buzz, and electricity to surround her tiny body, the slight difference in size would not detour her from her set goal on winning this fight. They may both be leaving this arena with their lives, but that didn’t mean their dignities would be intact. The moment the battle began, Domino let loose her pent up ThunderShock at her foe, hoping that the challenger, that is herself, would use this attack to make a solid victory.

[Meredith]

Meredith waddled in, hearing the crowd around her as she waked into the sandy pit. Clouds drifted by and Meredith wondered just what she had got herself into by agreeing to this challenge. An electric type against a water type, heck she might as well wave a flag and walk away! She snorted and shook her head as she shifted her feet on the sand. At least it would be soft when she fainted from this. The Totodile thought of her moves and which she could use against this Emolga that was before her. She stood with such sass that Meredith felt a tinge of unease in her gut. She heard the numbers count down and knew she had to make a quick decision.

A moment passed after the countdown and neither opponent moved. Mery looked at the Emolga and saw her cheeks begin to buzz with electricity. She gulped and chose her attack, hoping to cause her opponent some confusion. And as the electricity released into the air, a thundershock to be exact, the Totodile let her water pulse attack loose.

I could end this in an instant! But where would the fun in that be?

Domino smirked at the Totodile, her ThunderShock making a direct hit on the blue crocodile. No doubt the attack caused major damage to her adversary, and she could always feel satisfied by that fact alone. But of course she wasn’t stopping there. The lizard was still standing, clearly in pain. Domino could tell another ThunderShock and this battle could be over. One more and she would make a clear and swift victory.

But, now, where would the fun in that be?

Domino wouldn’t play stupid. She still had her ThunderShock, and whenever she wanted to, she could end this easily. This battle was just about won. The only way that it could be anything else was if luck was on Meredith for much more than a mere moment. That somehow, against the odds, this flat-faced lizard could somehow gain an advantage, it was something Domino clearly saw no possibility.

But still, Meredith’s Water Pulse hurt.

As the wave of water smacked her face, the Emolga felt herself growl, anger rising in her gut. Domino’s teeth gritted. That hurt! The Emolga gathered herself and regained her confident composure. Of course it hurt! This was a battle, remember? You couldn’t expect NOT to get hurt. Spreading all fours on the ground, Domino brought her feet off the ground and sent herself speeding at her foe. Even though Domino’s strategy had been effective, it was clear that Meredith’s didn’t quite hit the mark that she wanted. Domino’s Quick Attack was a sign that she was still capable of making, and taking, a hit.

[Meredith]

Meredith felt the shock ripple through her, the electricity zapping her core and even possibly her soul. The Totodile felt stiff and sore, but knew better than to show weakness to her opponent, especially one this strong. "What was I thinking? Why would I accept this challenge?" Meredith pondered her decision as she attempted to recover slightly, brushing the sand off her shiny blue scales. She watched the Emolga brush off her water pulse, as if it was nothing. It struck the core of Meredith, making her question her own strength. She didn't have much time to think as she looked at the Emolga, who was on all fours now.

Suddenly, as if she had turned into a black blur, the Emolga was racing towards Meredith at full force. Meredith thought of her moves quickly, knowing how ineffective water pulse had been. She decided to trust her gut and use a move she didn't use often. As the she blur came closer, Meredith braced herself. She let out a roar and lifted her right hand, the slight sun light reflecting off her claws. With a massive swing she swiped, using dragon claw.

Domino’s Quick Attack caused her to catapult at top speed into the Totodile’s stomach, but the speed made it too hard for the little Emolga to avoid what came next. Just as she bounced back from her speedy attack, she felt an extremely intense slashing sensation across her face, causing her to growl in pain. Shaking the pain off, the little Emolga steadied herself in the air, her glare intense, but not yet desperate. Okay, this croc wasn’t to be underestimated, Domino decided.

It would be best to finish this fight. And like she had made it clear earlier, Domino felt like she was about to end this fight. This next attack was much angrier than the first, though it was the same. Domino’s entire tiny form was glowing eerily with the electric attack. ThunderShock would never prove to be an incredibly powerful attack when this were incredibly difficult, but at this moment it was her most effective attack.

The little squirrel gave the lizard a smirk at her position in the air, her arrogance not the least bit diminished as she knew her victory was in her grasp. “Your attempt was valiant, fool,” Domino called out. “But I’m afraid all that valiance ends her!” And with that, Domino unleashed an incredibly angry ThunderShock. Domino knew it in her very being, only the very best of luck could possibly win this Totodile the battle. It almost made her feel sorry for the pitiful creature. Oh well. Maybe she would have some consolation in knowing that she would help Domino become stronger, though it couldn’t possibly be by THAT much. This fight wasn’t at all difficult.

[Meredith]

Meredith knew the Emolga would not like the dragon claw move used against her. The Emolga hit, the force of the quick attack making Meredith wince in pain. She shook her head and watched as her opponent backed up, growling in pain. Her move had hit it's mark and she knew she was slowly bringing her opponent down but not fast enough. The glare from her opponent was exactly what she was scared of. The anger flickered on her face and she began to glow from ThunderShock. Meredith gulped. She spoke, making Meredith annoyed that she would think Meredith was already out of the game. She was here to try and win. "Try." It was already proving hard and it had just begun. She thought about what to do so she could stay and get another hit or two in. As the move was released Meredith quickly shoved an Oran Berry in her mouth, knowing she needed one more terrific move after this to get her opponent with.

Meredith ate an Oran Berry.

Domino’s smirk formed into an all too pleased grin as the Totodile was completely overwhelmed by her ThunderShock attack. As the attack made its contact, the little Emolga glided toward her foe, passing her and ending up on the other side, both Pokemon their backs turned to each other. Domino saw the lizard’s rather desperate attempt by chomping down on the Oran Berry, but only time would tell if that did any good, even for a moment.

The little squirrel remained firm on all fours until she heard the thud that came from a Pokemon fainting. Domino’s smile became more sinister and proud as she turned to face her foe, both paws at her hips. In her face was not as much as a hint of any bit of sympathy, or kindness, from the Emolga. Instead, there was a condescending smirk that could easily be read. Domino won this fight, just like she said she would. And there was nothing this croc could possibly do about it.

Sure, perhaps the next battle would be a loss, perhaps she would even get what she deserved, but all that mattered to the self-absorbed squirrel was that right now she held control of this whole experience. This was a win that would always belong to her, and no matter what Meredith did, Domino knew she couldn’t erase it from her own history. She could forget, but that wouldn’t erase the fact that it still in fact happened.

Domino slowly made her way to the poor creature and knelt at her, knowing that while she was sprawled on the ground, she was bigger than the lizard. Boy was she going to relish this. “Well, what’d I tell you?” the little Emolga pointed on of her tiny fingers at the poor thing tauntingly. “I could never lose to a pitiful thing like you. Did you even think you could win?” Domino let out a laugh, scoffing at Meredith’s misery. “What a pathetic display

“But don’t worry,” she spoke on, basking in her victory as long as she could, placing the tips of both of her fingers before letting them flick her on the nose. “The next time you try to think you’re anything more than garbage, I’ll be right here reminding you of what you really are.” After that, Domino stood up and began walking off of the platform, and away from their little arena. “A pile of old, dried up, useless dirt!” And with that, Domino was in the air again, hoping her words would shed some light on the Totodile’s futile efforts.

Meredith felt the thunder shock ripple through her, paralyzing her. Her berry fell out of her mouth and she felt faint. The noise of the crowd became a blur as she fell backwards, creating a thump as she landed. Her body felt weak and sore and her vision was barely working as the Emolga stepped over her. She felt her heart sink. Had it not been enough that she had lost? Did she need more rude words spoken to her? She couldn't speak as the harsh words stung her inside. She was dealing with a very negative pokemon here, but she knew better than to snap back, even if she couldn't. The damage within this Emolga was deep.

Meredith felt like crying deep inside but she didn't. The pain of losing hurt, and the pain of these words cut deep. She watched her fly in the air. "Wait till I am stronger. I'll challenge you again."
